I'm a luxury cruise specialist with Laura North Voyages. I've been planning travel for eleven years, and my primary focus is helping clients get the ocean and river cruises they actually want, not the ones that sound good in a brochure.
Eleven years in travel, twelve before that in family celebrations.
I've been a travel advisor for eleven years. For nine of those, I ran my own agency independently before partnering with WorldWide Travel Team about two and a half years ago. The partnership gave me a larger team and support network behind me, without changing how I actually work with my clients. Together, we went on to earn Circle of Excellence recognition within Dream Vacations.
Before travel, my spouse and I owned a Pump It Up children's party facility franchise for twelve years. That business taught me something I still carry into every itinerary I plan. I used to tell my staff that a birthday party might feel routine to them, but for that family, it's the celebration of the most special people in the world.
The same is true of travel. A cruise or a two-week trip through Europe might be one of many itineraries I book that month, but for the client, it might be their one trip this year, or their one trip in five years. It should never feel routine on my end, even when the work itself is routine.
That's the standard. Every trip gets treated like it matters, because to the person taking it, it does.

Laura North Voyages is my luxury division, focused on ocean and river cruises, custom Europe itineraries, and luxury rail journeys. Four decades of my own travel, and I still feel it.
I've been traveling for more than forty years. When I arrive somewhere new, I'm drawn to three things, in this order: history, culture, and food. That order isn't accidental. Understanding a place first makes the food taste different later.
My favorite way to spend an afternoon abroad is to walk with no set destination, get lost on purpose, and end up at a café where I can watch the neighborhood go by. I've done that in cities I've visited ten times and cities I'd never seen before. It works either way.
On a recent trip to Japan, I felt exactly the same sense of wonder I felt on my first trip abroad at 15, when I traveled with my high school teacher to Greece, Egypt, and Israel. Different continent, decades apart, same feeling. That's what I want every one of my clients to come home with. And that's what I try to design for when I plan a trip.
Some trips stay with you.
A referral came in from someone we'd known for years, the kind where all he said was, "if I ever plan a trip, I'll call you." When he finally did, he could barely get the words out.
His wife had a serious diagnosis, and her one bucket-list trip was a Rhine River cruise. He told me it needed to happen soon, within about six weeks. Anyone who books cruises knows river sailings sell out a year or more in advance, and this one was no exception. Everything was gone.
I called Viking directly. There had been a last-minute cancellation, a balcony cabin, on the exact itinerary she wanted. I still get chills thinking about the timing of it.
We booked them in business class, lay-flat seats, so the flight itself would be comfortable. Her husband knew one more surprise was coming, their adult children flying over to meet them in Paris at the end of the trip, but she had no idea.
I spoke with her afterward, and her gratitude has stayed with me ever since. I think about that trip often. It's a reminder of why I do this work the way I do. Every trip matters this much to someone.
