You get a real person who knows the product firsthand, not a call center reading from a script.

Does it cost more to book through a travel advisor?

No. My planning services are complimentary for the vast majority of cruise and cruise-and-land itineraries. Cruise lines build a travel advisor fee into the cost of the cruise whether you book through me or not, so working with me doesn't add to your price. In many cases, I'm also able to secure additional amenities, category upgrades, exclusive pricing, or onboard credit that clients booking direct don't see. For fully custom itinerary planning I'm transparent about any planning fees before we begin.

I'm based in Southern California and work with clients across the United States. Almost everything happens by phone, video, and email, so where you live doesn't limit the planning. I don't book one-off domestic flights or hotel stays on their own. I do plan domestic rail journeys like Rocky Mountaineer, escorted group tours, and domestic legs that are part of a larger cruise or custom itinerary.

What's the difference between booking directly with a cruise line and booking through you?

The cruise fare itself is the same either way. What changes is what surrounds the booking. Booking direct, you get a call center agent who rotates, no continuity, and a script that pushes whatever the line is promoting that week. Booking with me, you get one person who knows the ships, watches for price drops and promotions after you book, coordinates the details around the cruise, and steps in on your behalf if something goes sideways.

How quickly do you typically respond once I reach out?

For new inquiries I usually reply within one business day, often the same day. Once we're actively planning or you're traveling, I'm reachable by phone, text, and email, and I make sure clients on active trips always have a direct line to me. For luxury and small-ship sailings, 12 to 18 months out is ideal, and popular itineraries like Alaska glacier sailings, the Mediterranean in shoulder season, and holiday river cruises often sell out earlier. Last-minute is possible, but you lose leverage on cabin category, dining reservations, specialty excursions, and pre-cruise hotels. Booking early also protects you if the line raises fares later.

It comes down to how you actually use your stateroom, ship layout, and value. A Neptune Suite on Holland America, for example, includes concierge lounge access, priority tendering, and significantly more square footage, which matters on longer sailings. A Vista Suite gives you the veranda experience with more moderate pricing. I walk you through deck plans for the specific ship, because the same category name can feel very different from one hull to the next.

Is a luxury or premium cruise line worth the extra cost compared to a mainstream line?

For many of my clients, yes, but not always. Luxury and premium lines include much more in the base fare (specialty dining, higher-end beverages, gratuities, sometimes shore excursions and air), sail smaller ships that reach smaller ports, and offer a much higher crew-to-guest ratio. When you compare true all-in cost and factor in the experience onboard, the gap narrows considerably. I'll run the real numbers with you so you're comparing apples to apples.

Both. Ocean cruises are my primary specialty, and river cruises are a close second. I sail AmaWaterways most often and hold a specialist certification with them, and I also book Viking, Uniworld, and Avalon Waterways depending on what fits the trip. Many of my clients alternate between the two depending on the year, and I sail the ships myself so I can speak to real differences in stateroom layouts, dining, and excursion styles.

River ships are small, usually around 150 guests, and they dock right in the center of the cities and towns you visit, so you step off and you're already there. The pace is more relaxed, the scenery is constant, and shore excursions are typically included. Ocean cruises offer bigger ships, more onboard amenities, longer sea days, and a wider range of itineraries. Neither is better in a vacuum, they simply suit different trips.

It's scenic, culturally rich, and the classic Budapest to Passau or Vilshofen route includes highlights like Vienna, Bratislava, and the Wachau Valley. The Rhine is a strong second choice for castles and Christmas markets. If you want something quieter and more intimate, the Douro in Portugal is a beautiful third option.

A custom Europe trip is built around your specific interests, pace, and pace of travel. Typical elements include multi-city planning across two or three countries, hotel selection with room category recommendations, private guides and drivers where they make sense, restaurant reservations that are hard to secure on your own, museum and site tickets with skip-the-line access, and rail or transfers between cities. Every itinerary is different, which is the point.

It's closer to a small luxury hotel on rails than to a commuter train. Journeys like the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, Belmond's Andean Explorer, or Rocky Mountaineer feature private cabins or suites, multi-course dining with regional wine, panoramic observation cars, and curated stops for excursions along the route. The train is the destination, not just the way to get somewhere.

Yes, and I strongly recommend it for any significant trip.
