Planning a Mediterranean cruise or land itinerary

The Mediterranean rewards travelers who mix coastline with culture. I plan Italian and French Riviera sailings, Greek Isles itineraries, and coastal Spain trips that pair well with time on land.

Shoulder season, April through early June and September into October, usually delivers the best combination of weather, fewer crowds, and open tables at the restaurants worth traveling for. Oceania, Silversea, Seabourn, Regent, Viking Ocean, Windstar, and Explora Journeys all sail here regularly, and the right choice depends on whether you want a quieter small-ship experience, more included amenities, or a particular culinary focus. I also build pre and post-cruise land extensions in Rome, Barcelona, Athens, or the hill towns of Tuscany and Provence so the trip doesn't feel like a port checklist.

Glaciers & Wildlife

Planning an Alaska cruise with the right timing

Alaska is different from other cruise destinations. The season is short, the best cabins and excursions disappear early, and the experience is defined by glaciers, wildlife, and scenery rather than ports.

As a Princess Commodore, I place a meaningful number of Alaska bookings with Princess, which is one of the leading operators in the region and offers strong glacier and Inside Passage itineraries. For clients who want a more intimate experience, I also look at luxury and expedition options that get closer to the coast and wildlife. The booking window matters here: 12 to 18 months out is the sweet spot for balcony and suite categories, especially for June and July departures. I also plan land extensions to Denali, Talkeetna, or the Kenai Peninsula when a client wants more than the cruise alone.

Planning a European river cruise

European river cruising is the definition of depth over breadth. You unpack once, sail through the heart of the continent, and step off each morning into a town that would take days to reach by car.

AmaWaterways is my primary river partner and where I hold a specialist certification. I personally sail the Danube, Rhine, Douro, and Rhône with them, so I can speak from experience about cabin categories, dining, excursion pacing, and the ships that suit different travelers. I also book Viking, Uniworld, and Avalon Waterways when one of those lines is the better fit for a client. The Danube and Rhine are ideal for first-time river cruisers. The Douro in Portugal offers wine country and a quieter rhythm. The Rhône is built around food, Provence, and Roman history. River cruising works especially well for clients who want culture without the bustle of a big ocean ship, and I almost always plan a pre or post-cruise stay in Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Porto, Amsterdam, or Lyon.
