Is a luxury rail trip long enough to be worth flying for?

Some are, some aren't. A one-night Orient-Express experience is stunning but short, so I typically pair it with time in Venice, Paris, or London on either side. Rocky Mountaineer is easily a full trip on its own, especially combined with an Alaska cruise. On a consultation call I'll be honest about which routes stand alone and which want a longer itinerary around them.

Trains reach landscapes cruises simply can't, especially inland mountain and river country. You trade the space of a cruise ship for a more intimate, ceremonial pace where the journey is the point. For many of my clients, a rail journey once every few years is a wonderful counterpoint to their cruising.
